| I
graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Business Education.
I met my husband and was married while I was a senior in college. After
graduation I worked in the corporate world at Western Electric (later AT&T)
as a Wage Practice/Labor Relations Specialist. My position in the business
environment helped me gain an understanding of the importance of student
readiness for the world of work after graduation. In working in the corporate
world, it became apparent to me that schools needed to do a better job
of preparing students for their futures.
When my son was born, I decided to take time off and become a full-time mother. I was home for 10 years during which time my daughter was born. When the time came for me to go back to work, I decided I really wanted to go back into teaching. I substitute taught for a year and also taught various computer classes at the local junior college. I began working for Plainfield High School in fall of 1995 as a Business Education teacher. I taught various business courses such as Keyboarding, Computer Applications, Orientation to Business, Accounting, and Desktop Publishing. This is my third year in Instructional Technology. I am currently enrolled in a Masters in Education program with emphasis in Integrating Technology into the Classroom. I totally believe in using technology in all aspects of education. From my early experience in the corporate world I realized the importance of having students doing meaningful work that transferred into life skills. We truly do need to prepare our students for the future! We need to give them skills and the tools to always be able to find the answers! |
