The public works of Sumer were very important to their culture. Three examples of these institutions were: 1) The temples- Priests and priestesses ran these and pretty much the whole government because religion was the center of Sumerian life. 2) Schools- Scribes had to go to school to learn their trade. They were always demanded by society and wouldn't be short of work. Scribes recorded diplomatic messages, poems, financial transactions, and personal messages. 3) the Beer Hall- This was considered a Sumerian institution. Many people gathered there such as merchants and other traders. It was an important part of every city. |
