This course is intended for students who are college bound and non-college bound alike. This is the first year of a two-year sequence, which is equivalent to the standard Algebra I course. Although successful completion of the Algebra I-Part 1 and Part 2 will earn students two credits toward graduation, most colleges consider them to be the equivalent of one year of algebra for admission purposes. Some of the topics which will be included in this course are: use of variables, algebraic properties, operations with rational numbers, solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, solving systems of equations and inequalities, and ratios and proportions. Completion of 2-Year Algebra 1-Part 1 and Part 2 (2 year program), Geometry: Concepts and Applications, and Intermediate Algebra 2 will fulfill college entrance requirements.
