Information Sheet for Algebra 1 Part 2

Course Description:

This course is intended for students who are college bound and non-college bound alike. This is

the second year of a two-year sequence, which is equivalent to the standard Algebra 1 course. Although successful completion of Algebra 1 (Parts 1 and 2) earns students two credits toward graduation, most colleges consider them to be the equivalent of one year of algebra for admission purposes. Some of the topics included in this course are: solving and graphing linear inequalities, solving systems of linear equations and inequalities, operations with polynomials, factoring, exponents, radicals, quadratic equations and exponential functions. Completion of Algebra

1 (Parts 1 and 2), Geometry: Concepts and Applications, and Intermediate Algebra 2 fulfills college entrance requirements. Scientific calculator required (TI scientific preferred).

Materials Needed:

• Book
• Notebook or Folder/3 ring binder and loose-leaf paper
• Pencils
• Calculator

Grading:

Your grade in this class will be determined by the following percentages:

· 60% Tests and Quizzes

· 20% Daily Assignments

· 15% Semester Exam

· 5% Midterm

Classroom Procedure:

• Enter the classroom and find your assigned seat.
• You are expected to be prepared for class at all times.

This includes your book, notes, calculator, etc

• Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher

• All other expectations and guidelines can be found in the handbook.
• It Is A Math Department Regulation That There Is No Use Of Electronic Devices,

-this includes IPODS, MP3 players, PHONES, PSP, CAMERAS, etc

Passes:

• Each student will be given three emergency passes each semester.
• These can be used for any reason: bathroom, left homework in locker, etc.
• After all three are used a tardy will be issued for any necessary passes during class.

(This tardy will be left to the discretion of the teacher)

In order for any passes to be issued the student must have their own Agenda Books with them (No Sharing) and the pass section of the book intact.

Absences:

• It is the responsibility of the students to get any missed information.
• A list of HW assignments can be found at www.schoolnotes.com. There is also a link on my webpage on the school’s home page.
• Missed assignment need to made up within a reasonable amount of time, if absent for an extended amount of time a schedule can be made up with me.
• If absent on the day of the review for a test or quiz (the day before the test/quiz) the student will still be required to take the test or quiz.
• If absent for a test or quiz it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the teacher within 24 hour of returning to school to take the test or quiz.
• Unexcused Absences will result in a grade of a 0 for all assignments for the day.

Extra Help:

I am available for extra help both before and after school. If you need help, please see me to arrange a time to get help. It is easier to get help while learning the material, then to try and play catch up for a quiz or test.
