                                What We're About!
The emphasis of study for SCORE program is to provide functional academic instruction in reading, math, and writing as well as instruction in daily living, social skills, communication and vocational areas.  This program also provides an opportunity to apply the skills learned in the classroom to community-based experiences.

Curriculum

SCORE FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE-  This program includes the mastery of personal hygiene skills, consumer education, cooking                                                                                             skills, home management and maintenance, shopping skills, dressing appropriately for the                                                                                             weather and occasion, and basic health and first aide.

SCORE LANGUAGE ARTS-  Students will study functional academics that focus on the development of communication and survival skills                                                               that will allow  independent functioning in the community.  Areas of concentration include reading, writing,                                                               reasoning, social skills, and emotional development.

SCORE MATH-  The students will develop basic math skills to allow independent functioning, in the community and at home.  Areas of                                           concentration include basic computation skills, measurement skills, time and money concepts as well as reading simple charts,                                 graphs and tables, and simple banking skills.

SCORE SOCIAL SCIENCE (Community Awareness)-  This program will allow practical application of the skills taught in class through                                                                                                               community-based experiences.  These trips will include activities and the development                                                                                                     of skills needed to live as independently as possible.  The focus of trips includes                                                                                                                   awareness of the community in the areas of safety, leisure, shopping, restaurants,                                                                                                           community services, and vocational possibilities.  Social Science also involves                                                                                                                   awareness of current events and our country's holidays, history, and government.

SCORE VOCATIONAL PROGRAM-  This program involves classroom instruction, in-school training, work training at Joliet Junior                                                                                     College and community  training.  Students progress through this work sequence at their own pace                                                                             and ability.  Classroom instruction includes teaching specific work skills and training of good work                                                                               habits.  In-school training involves using these skills in a variety of  training opportunities within the                                                                           school setting.  The JJC work training program provides a longer period of the school day  to                                                                                       experience various jobs at the college on a rotating basis to identify student's interests and capabilities.

SCORE PHYSICAL EDUCATION-  This program is designed to address the need for exercise, development of leisure activities and promote                                                                       health and well -being in a small, closely monitored class.
