From the Desk of Tom Hensel:

We would like to give special recognition to Megan Brann, a junior at Plainfield South High School and member of the Plainfield swim team.  Megan completed a rescue of a fellow teammate who was in the water unconscious after hitting her head on the diving board. Megan is also a diver on our team and a lifeguard.  Megan, along with the lifeguard on duty and parents, were quick and supportive in this emergency.  The teammate returned to school and the team two days later with no injuries.

We are extremely proud of Megan!

Student Services:

In the next few weeks, counselors will be meeting with students in groups to begin the scheduling process for the 2004-05 school year.  Students should be bringing home practice scheduling sheets and Curriculum Guides.  Please go over these with your student and help them choose their elective courses.  Teachers will be discussing course requests with students on Tuesday, December 16th (Recommendation Day).

If parents have questions, they can meet with or call their child’s counselor.  Please keep in mind that counselors will be very busy meeting with students in groups until after winter break.  Even after schedule sheets are turned in on December 16th, changes can be made until the end of the year.

French Club:

Plainfield South’s French Club celebrated National French Week November 5-11, 2003.  The celebration began with a traditional French breakfast of croissants and baguettes with butter and jam, as well as pains au chocolat (chocolate croissants), served with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.  In attendance at the breakfast were club members, administrators, support staff and foreign language teachers.  To continue with exposure to French, the Disney movie, “LaBelle et la Bete” (Beauty and the Beast) was shown in French one afternoon after school.  The final activity for National French Week was a French cheese-tasting open to all French students.  Many students attended and delighted at the opportunity to try Brie, Port Salut, Boursin, Morbier and Chevre.  National French Week 2003 at PSHS was a hugh success!

German Club:

The German Club will be taking its 3rd annual trip to the German Christmas Market in Daley Plaza in Chicago on Saturday, December 13th.  The students will get to visit an authentic German market and experience German food, drinks, music, gifts and more.  The German Christmas Market invites vendors from Germany to share their wares with the citizens of the Chicago-land area.  Thus, the students will have an opportunity to use their language skills to speak not only with the vendors, but also the large number of Chicago residents of German heritage who visit this beautiful market every year.
