to Visit Drauden Point

A once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Marion Blumenthal Lazan, a holocaust survivor, co-author of Four Perfect Pebbles on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Her award-winning book about her childhood under Hitler's rule is a moving first-hand account of the Blumenthal family's life in Germany from the events preceding Kristallnacht to imprisonment in concentration camps to liberation in April of 1945. Mrs. Lazan was 11 years old when the family gained its freedom. Dr. Harper Visits Drauden Point in Preparation for Marion Blumenthal Lazan

Dr. John Harper visited Mrs. Kuykendall's Language Arts Class on November 11th, to teach her students about historical events that lead up to Hitler's rule and insights to the Holocaust. The class has been reading the book, Four Perfect Pebbles by Marion Blumenthal Lazan, in preparation for her visit on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in which she will talk about her experiences at Bergen Belsen under Hitler's rule as a child.

 

Election 2008

Drauden Point held the 2008 Mock Presidential Election in the LRC on October 28th. Students had the opportunity to cast their vote for their top choice of the six presidential candidates on their electronic ballot. In order to vote, each student had to prove they were a registered voter in our precinct, by showing a valid student ID card to the election judge. The student typed their ID # into the computer ballot to cast their vote for president. The results will be tallied with all the other schools in the district.

F. E. Higgins
to Visit Drauden Point

Our 6th grade classes are honored to host author F. E. Higgins on Wednesday, October 22nd. Her presentation will be an exciting one complete with costumes and interactive scripts. We will be selling her books in the LRC. Her books, The Black Book of Secrets and her newest book, The Bone Magician, are $12.00 each.

Suzanne Collins
to Visit Drauden Point

On Friday, September 26, author Suzanne Collins will visit with 8th Grade Drauden Point students to discuss her latest exciting book, The Hunger Games, which offers the same breathless pace, intense drama, and extraordinary challenges of her earlier books. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade students may purchase books to be autographed directly from the school with cash or check payable to Drauden Point MS.
