The Great Read proudly celebrates President Abraham Lincoln on the 150th anniversary of his Emancipation Proclamation, which led to the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution abolishing slavery in 1865.
Rather than featuring one book, this year The Great Read will host numerous programs highlighting President Lincoln's monumental place in American history. Participants are encouraged to read any of the many books about President Lincoln and participate in all programs that suit their interest. ![]() The Great Read is proudly presented by Plainfield School District 202; the Plainfield Public Library; the Joliet Public Library; the Fountaindale Public Library; the Shorewood-Troy Public Library; Joliet Junior College; Plainfield Township; and the Joliet-area Barnes and Noble stores. The Great Read is also supported by generous grants from the Plainfield Foundation for Excellence (www.d202foundation.org); the Friends of the Plainfield Public Library; and additional funding from participating member organizations. |
