Dear John F. Kennedy Learning Community:
Welcome to the JFK Middle School Media Center Web Page!
John F. Kennedy Middle School is beginning its third year as a member of the rapidly growing Plainfield School District. Our student body has increased to over 1100 students, and our professional staff has increased proportionately. The Media Center staff is always looking for new ways to support our growing population and to meet the needs of our students.
We currently follow a block schedule at JFK, which replaces study halls with guided enrichment periods. Because of this, individual students must find time before and after school, during lunch or with a pass from their teacher to visit the Media Center. Some teachers are also scheduling regular visits during the school day so that their students can check-out new books on a regular basis.
The Media Center is open from 7:15 AM until about 2:50 PM. During this time, students can come to Media Center to check in and out materials, print projects and do research. Parents are always welcome to visit the Media Center and we welcome parent volunteers to help out at book fairs, author visits, Battle of the Books and more!
We traditionally have two book fairs per year here at JFK’s Media Center, one in the fall and another one in the spring. Profits from these book fairs are immediately returned to the school in the form of additional new books for students to enjoy! A BIG thank you to all students, staff and community members who support our Media Center by participating in our JFK book fairs.
Please visit our site often to check for book recommendations, new event postings, and other exciting updates from the Media Center. The Media Center will be open during all Parent-Teacher Conferences so please stop in and check out all that we have to offer!
Happy Reading,
Joan M. Rux
