No Child Left behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
The Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires all states to measure each public school’s achievement and establish annual achievement targets. If a Title I school fails to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets for two consecutive years, the school enters Federal School Improvement status. NCLB provides parents/guardians with options if their child’s current school has been identified for School Improvement.

Does Plainfield CCSD 202 have Title I schools in Federal School Improvement status for the 2012-2013 school year?
Central Elementary, Creekside Elementary, Crystal Lawns Elementary, and Timber Ridge Middle School are in Federal School Improvement status since they did not meet state standards in all subjects with all sub-groups of students for at least two consecutive years.
What are the schools doing in order to improve?
Each school will be using its School Improvement Plan, developed as required by Illinois law, to address their school improvement needs, including those identified under NCLB. The School Board, administration, and school staff are collaborating on proven methods to improve students’ performance, by evaluating and improving curriculum and instruction, increasing staff effectiveness, enhancing the learning environments, and increasing parental participation.
PUBLIC SCHOOL CHOICE
What is Public School Choice?
When a school does not make AYP for two consecutive years, the district must provide parents and guardians with options, including the option to request their child be transferred to another school until they complete the highest grade level at that school or their home school meets their AYP. This option is called Public School Choice.
When are parents notified?
According to the NCLB Act parents must be notified by the school district that their child is eligible for Public School Choice sufficiently in advance of, but no later than 14 calendar days before, the start of the school year for which public school choice is being offered. Parents from each identified school were mailed a letter informing them of the public school choice option.
Important Points for parents to know about Choice
- The district shall provide transportation only until the end of the school year in which the transferring school ceases to be identified for school improvement or subject to corrective action or restructuring.
- If a parent chooses to leave their child at the new school if Choice is no longer offered, it is their responsibility to transport their child to and from school. The district will not provide transportation if the home school is no longer offering Choice.
- Students transferring to a new school will not be eligible for Title I services and Supplemental Educational Services (SES) at new school.
- Should space for students be limited, priority will go to the low-achieving students who are participating in the free/reduced lunch program.

SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
Under NCLB , schools that fail to make AYP for three consecutively years must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES).
What is Supplemental Educational Services?
When a school does not make AYP three years in a row, the district must offer tutoring services to eligible students in those schools. Those services are performed by Illinois State Board approved providers.
2012-2013 Schools Offering SES
Who is eligible for SES?
Students who attend the schools listed above and are receiving free or reduced lunches.
When are parents notified?
Families who meet the income requirements will receive a SES packet in the mail by the end of September informing of them of the option for SES tutoring services. This packet also includes information about each tutoring provider and an application form.
The district will offer two sessions of SES for the 2012-2013 school year.
- October 1, 2012 to December 22, 2012
- January 7, 2013 to March 22, 2013
Important information about SES
- There is a per pupil allocation of money available for each eligible student. Once that amount has been spent, the tutoring ends.
- Parents choose the tutoring programs from a list of tutoring providers that are provided by the Illinois State Board of Education. These programs and providers are not affiliated with the Plainfield CCSD.
