Anatomy & Physiology Honors

Chapter 8 Study Guide

In order to successfully complete chapter 8, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the following.

  1. Using a diagram of the eye, label the structures discussed in class.

(3 coats, lens, 2 humors, ciliary body, optic nerve, etc…)

  1. Using the structures labeled in #1, state the function of each structure.
  2. How do rods and cones differ? (Location and function)
  3. Trace the pathway that light travels as it enters the eye and list all the structures that it passes through in order.
  4. Using a diagram of the ear, label the major structures of the outer, middle and inner ear.
  5. Using the labels in #8 state the functions of the structures of the ear.
  6. Trace the path of sound waves through the ear and label all the structures that sound passes through.
  7. What is the name of smell and taste receptors combined? What are their individual names?
  8. Where are the taste receptors found?
  9. Where are smell receptors found?
  10. Name the 4 primary taste sensations
  11. Explain how the sense of smell and taste are closely related and give an example to prove your explanation.

Activities/Assignments:

  1. Children’s Book Project (100 pts)
  2. Eye Dissection Lab
  3. Taste/Smell Lab
