Course
goals: To help students develop a conceptual framework for
biology and an appreciation of science as a process. This course will
also advance students’ understanding of scientific and technological principles
in today’s society.
Course
Description: Biology is the study of life. This
laboratory course is year long and designed for students with a variety of
skill and ability levels. It examines the following topics in depth:
scientific methodology, cells, human body systems, genetics, biodiversity,
populations, and ecosystems. This course is intended for students with
average and ability in math and language skills. Both semesters will
include weekly laboratory experiences and problem solving using the scientific
method.
Activities
include: Laboratory investigations, selected textbook readings
and worksheets, supplemental newspaper and magazine articles, and student
projects.

Course
Description: Honors Biology is designed for students who
have excellent reading, comprehension, and study skills. The pace in the
course is rapid, and critical thinking is stressed. Students are expected
to maintain a grade of “B” or better throughout the year. This is a
lab-oriented class. Major topics include: biochemistry, cellular biology,
molecular and Mendelian genetics, biodiversity, evolution, and ecology.

and worksheets, supplemental newspaper and magazine articles, and student
projects.
